Dante Alighieri
The man who journeyed through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise, and lived to tell the tale

A time line of Dante's life:
- 1265 - Born in Florence, Republic of Florence (present-day Italy)
- 1277 - Dante meets Beatrice, his lifelong love and muse."
- 1280 - Promised in marriage to Gemma di Manetto Donati, daughter of Manetto Donati and member of the powerful Donati family.
- 1282 - Dante meets Guido Cavalcanti, lapo Gianni, Cino da Pistoia, and Brunetto Latini. Together they become leaders of the dolce stil novo.
- 1285-1295 - Dante fathers three children with his wife Gemma.., and possibly others with other women.
- 1289 - Fought with the Guelph cavalry at the Battle of Campaldino (June 11, 1289), which brought about a reformation of the Florentine constitution.
- 1290 - Beatrice dies, devastating Dante.
- 1295 - Enters the Physicians' and Apothecaries Guild of Florence.
- 1302 - Dante is condemned to exile from Florence. He moves to Rome and never returns to Florence. In June 2008, nearly 7 centuries later, the city council of Florence passed a motion recindings Dante's sentence.
- 1308-1310 - Dante visits Paris, and perhaps to Oxford.
- 1314 - Begins work on the Devine Comedy.
- 1317 - Publishes Inferno.
- 1318 - Accepts an invitation from Prince Guido Novello da Polenta to move to Revenna
- 1321 - Finishes Paradiso and dies. He is buried in Revenna at the Church of San Pier Maggiore.
